An Open Letter to Save My Life

Help Me by Sharing this Post:

I am Jose.  My family and friends call me "Nono."  I need a kidney to live, not necessarily your kidney, but some extraordinary person's kidney.  You can help save my life just by sharing this Post to the public on Facebook or elsewhere (click on an icon above).  Together we can find that angel willing to do the extraordinary to save my life.

Jose Aujero and Family

My Story:

I have End Stage Renal Failure due to Uncontrollable Hypertension.  I am currently on dialysis 3 times each week.  Dialysis is an exhausting procedure that saps me of strength and energy that I had prior to my kidney failure.

There is an angel who will step forward to save my life by giving me a kidney (Blood type A or O.)  It's tall order, a big ask.  So I’m not asking.  But I am asking only that you share this Facebook Post with the public (beyond just your Facebook friends).  I need your help by sharing this request, and I’ll show you how to do that below.  You can help me immensely simply by Sharing this Post on Facebook.

The more people who know of my need, the better my chance is of reaching a person willing to be an altruistic donor.  So now it's all about getting the word out.  That’s where you come in.

Who Am I?

I am a husband, a father, brother, and a computer programmer.  I am a friend, a kind, gentle, compassionate and lovingly generous individual.  I volunteer for good causes whenever I can.  And I love my family, my children, and my granddaughter.  My
daughter is expecting another child next month and I look forward to meeting her when she is born.

I want to live to see my children and grandchildren grow up and have families of their own.  My favorite times are sitting with my granddaughter, reading, talking or just resting.  And I enjoy reading, golf, and seeing my family and friends.

Friends and family know me for my calm and listening demeanor.  I am always ready to help others.  This time, it's a different situation.  This time I need help, and I need it from many people, such as yourself.  I need you to help save my life by sharing this Post on FaceBook.

Why This is so Serious— My Options:

Most people are born with two well-functioning kidneys even though they need only one kidney to lead a full and equally healthy life.  Both of my kidneys are basically shut down.  As a result, I have two options to continue living:
  • Dialysis (life expectancy about 3 - 5 years)
  • Transplant (a new lease on life)
According to USRDS data, kidney transplant recipients fare far better than dialysis patients.  I could live another 25 or more years with a kidney transplant.  I'm sure that you know how much I want and need those years to continue helping others and helping my family.

My wife and family are medically disqualified as donors due to our family's history of uncontrollable hypertension.  So, a kidney transplant is my only viable option to continue living for the long term.  Otherwise, it's as if I have been given a death sentence.  Yes, it's that serious.

Please note that even if a willing donor is not an exact match for me, through an arrangement called “Paired Kidney Donation" (kidney swapping) a donor who is not a match for me might be a match for someone else and I would be eligible to receive that person’s donor’s kidney that would be a match for me.
